چکیده

Reliable Multicast has been applied to large-scale contents delivery systems for distributing digital contents to a large number of users without data loss. Performance evaluation of reliable multicast is useful for delivery time estimation in active delivery systems as well as for designing communication protocols and systems. This paper evaluates the implementation and performance of RMTP; a reliable multicast protocol for bulk-data transfer for several types of contents delivery services. System configuration is examined including operation function such as delivery scheduling based on performance evaluation. Furthermore, research issues are discussed when reliable multicast is applied to emerging broadband network services.

Live Streaming via Application-Level Multicast in Content Delivery Networks

With the increasing popularity of multimedia streaming applications over the Internet, innovative infrastructures and technologies are needed to efficiently distribute the surging amount of multimedia contents. Content delivery networks provide an intermediate layer of infrastructure that helps to deliver the contents from content providers to a large community of geographically distributed use...

RMX: Reliable Multicast for Heterogeneous Networks

Although IP Multicast is an effective network primitive for best-effort, large-scale, multi-point communication, many multicast applications such as shared whiteboards, multi-player games and software distribution require reliable data delivery. Building services like reliable sequenced delivery on top of IP Multicast has proven to be a hard problem. The enormous extent of network and end-syste...

Reliable multicast via satellite: a comparison survey and taxonomy

IP multicasting is an important service, which will be provided by the next generation Internet. A range of applications has emerged which take advantage of multicast delivery. However, several factors currently hinder large-scale deployment of terrestrial multicast services. It is particularly difficult to support delivery to large groups of users. Satellites offer a natural way to extend the ...

TCP-SMO: Extending TCP to Support Medium-Scale Multicast Applications

Scalable reliable multicast protocols have been a focus of recent research, tackling the problem of efficient reliable data delivery to an arbitrarily large number of receivers. Yet, the common applications of multicast, such as multi-point file delivery, or video streaming from a media server, typically only involve a moderate number of receivers, such as a thousand or fewer. Moreover, because...

An Application-Controlled Framework for Reliable Multicast Transport

IP multicast has enabled a number of large-scale collaborative applications, several of which require reliability. However, no single reliable multicast (RM) transport protocol fits the requirements of all classes of applications and functions efficiently over all types of heterogeneous networks. In this paper, we propose a novel framework approach to RM protocol design that involves a generic ...
